Day 1: Arrival – excursion to the city of Kigali

Meet and greet at Kigali airport with our guide. Take a short Rwanda Chimps & Gorilla Tour of the city of Kigali, starting with a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial. After the tour, drive to Nyungwe Forest and arrive in Nyanza in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk

After breakfast, you go on a chimpanzee tour in the rainforest. Before trekking into the forest to look for chimpanzees, first, report to the park headquarters for a briefing from the park ranger. You will have the opportunity to see chimpanzees. Other primates in the forest include Rwenzori colobus monkeys, L’hoests monkeys, silver monkeys, owl monkeys, and grey-cheeked monkeys.

In the afternoon, you can go for a canopy walk, an adventurous activity that allows you to see the forest. After your hike, head to Ruhengeri, Rwanda’s fourth-largest city, with a stunning trio of volcanoes in the background. In the evening, you arrive at Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Start your day with breakfast at the hotel. Our guide will take you to Kinigi, home of the Volcanoes National Park office, where you will be briefed on gorilla tracking. After being briefed and assigned to a specific group, your trek begins with a local guide and ranger. Travel time is unpredictable.

Experience shows that the trip takes everything from just 1 hour of hiking to a full-day hike in the forest. After meeting the mountain gorillas, you have up to an hour of field observation time. Afternoon visit to Twin Lakes. Or visit the village of Ibyiwachu to learn about the Rwandan culture. Overnight at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge.

Day 4: Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, PNV departs for Kigali. You will arrive in Kigali in the late afternoon. If you missed the city tour on the first day, you will join the Kigali city tour.
